My Name is Pauli Murray

My Name is Pauli Murray is a biographical documentary about the Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray, someone I’d like you to meet. She is my father’s sister and, at various times in my life, functioned as a third parent to me, my siblings, and many other members of her family.

I spent much time with Aunt Pauli, variously working as her office assistant, cutting out newspaper clippings of the news of the day. Other times, I was her traveling companion as we went on various excursions in the Atlantic Northeast. Whether in New York, New Haven, Boston, or elsewhere in New England, she introduced me to various people and places that a young boy from Crown Heights might not otherwise experience.

Friday, 17 September 2021, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the person I knew as my aunt in a role for which she didn’t desire public attention, but instead to influence public policy.

Premiering in 55 theaters across the United States and on Amazon Prime Video on 1 October, Participant Media, Drexler Films, and Storyville Films present a film distributed by Amazon Studios and from the directors of the award-winning documentary RBG, Betsy West & Julie Cohen: My Name is Pauli Murray.
